Durga Arya-Krüger, with her exuberant movements and soulful expressions, is a true story-teller...she exemplifies the ultimate essence of Indian classical dance Kathak. Smt. Durga Arya was introduced to the Lucknow Gharana of Kathak at a tender age under the tutelage of Smt. Guru Reba Vidyarthi. She later continued her training under Shri Munna Shukla, and blossomed under the guidance of the legendary Kathak Mestro Pandit Birju Maharaj. After completion of her training under the maestro in New Delhi, India, she toured the world with him and his dance troupe. She has collected many accolades all over the world through her enthralling performances in India, Germany, France, Italy, UK, Russia, and the USA. In India she performed at esteemed festivals like the Khajuraho Dance Festival, Kalakshetra Dance festival, Soorya Dance Festival, etc. Abroad India she performed in various festivals of Indian Classical Dance and Music. Her captivating presence on stage, mesmerizing command over ‘laya’, enchanting playful compositions with complex rhythms, spellbinding ‘chakkars’, and engaging 'bhav-nritya' has the audience transfixed and absorbed in the world of Kathak. Residing in Germany for the last 20 years, Smt. Durga Arya-Krüger has been a messiah of Indian culture in Europe. She has been an active participant in the Indo-Germanic cultural collaborations. Through her performances and trainings, Kathak has inspired the lives of not only Indians, but also people of other nationalities. Her grace and devotion to the dance form is an evidence of decades of sincere dedication, and a reminder of the grandeur of Kathak.
