About Rhea:
Rhea Pradhan commenced her training in Bharatnatyam at the age of 6, with Guru Shalini Shivashankar at The Upahaar School of Dance’s Twickenham branch, in 2013. Both Bharatnatyam and Carnatic music have been a great fascination and attraction to Rhea. She trained in Carnatic Music for 3 years with Avinash Acharya at the Twickenham centre.Â
Besides Indian classical dance and music, Rhea was a keen student of the western violin, has played as part of the Tiffin Girls’ school’s orchestra both within the borough and outside including the Christ Church cathedral at Oxford. She has also completed her violin exams until grade 5. On the sports front, Rhea has been a competitive swimmer at the county level until 2023, having won medals in free-style and butterfly strokes. Rhea has also completed her silver Duke of Edinburgh award successfully.
Currently, Rhea is in Year 12, at The Tiffin Girls’ School. She achieved all grade 9s in her GCSEs, and is currently studying Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths for her A-levels. She aspires to pursue her career in engineering and wishes to further her training in dance alongside her career, to delve deeper into understanding the nuances of Bharatnatyam and participate in many more solo and group performances going forward.Â
Rhea received a special mention in the ISTD bursary awards senior category, in 2022 and has also completed the ISTD exams, from grades 1 to 5 in Bharatnatyam. Some notable stages where Rhea has performed include the Nehru Centre, at Upahaar’s students showcases including the 15th and 20th anniversary celebrations, the Archbishop Lanfranc Academy in June 2022, London Hindu Aikyavedi, the late Queen’s Jubilee weekend street party at The Chase in Wallington in June 2022. She is currently volunteering as a teaching assistant for younger groups at Twickenham branch and would like to pursue her skills in teaching in the future. For the last 2 years, Rhea has been undergoing intensive training with her Guru Shalini Shivashankar, and is excited to showcase her solo Bharatanatyam debut (Arangetram).
